1: When will Canvas become available?

All NJIT faculty/staff/students will be able to log into Canvas at this time at http://njit.instructure.com. Instructors have access to a “sandbox” site by June 1st in which they can play around with the system and get used to the features of Canvas. Instructors and students also can view the help resources that are available.

2: How do I access Canvas?

All NJIT faculty/staff/students will be able to log into Canvas at this time at http://njit.instructure.com. Instructors have access to a “sandbox” site by June 1st in which they can play around with the system and get used to the features of Canvas. Instructors and students also can view the help resources that are available. Links to log in to Canvas will be available at http://canvas.njit.edu. You are also able to login directly to Canvas at http://njit.instructure.com.

3: Is there a mobile app available?

Yes! The Canvas app is available for students and teachers for Android and iOS devices. Search for Canvas in the app store of your device to get started.

4: I have a community/committee/group Moodle page. Can this be migrated to Canvas?

Yes. At this time community groups can still use Moodle to conduct business. If you need to move your community group over to Canvas we ask for you to please fill out the migration form.

5: When will Moodle be retired?

Moodle will be available until August of 2020. Course content and materials will be archived at that time.

6: How do I migrate my content from Moodle to Canvas?

The Office of Digital Learning will handle migrating your course content into Canvas from Moodle. Please fill out the request form to put in a request.. Course content will be migrated within 5 business days and an email will be sent upon completion.

7: Can I still use Moodle for my courses?

Yes. Instructors who still wish to use Moodle may do so for the Fall 19, Winter 19, Spring 20, and Summer 20 semesters. Instructors that wish to use Moodle starting in the Fall of 19 must fill out the Moodle course request form to be given access to their courses. A redirect link will be placed in your course in Canvas to direct students to Moodle.

8: What kind of training is available for learning about using Canvas?

Help resources are available on our Canvas homepage. Formal training for instructors is available through the Institute for Teaching Excellence. Students are asked to contact the IST Service Desk if they are in need of assistance with Canvas.

9: I use Kaltura, Respondus, and Turnitin. Are they available in Canvas?

Yes. All external services that you may have used in Moodle will be available in Canvas. Updated tutorials and information will be available on the Canvas website this summer.

10: I’m developing a new course. Should I develop it in Canvas?

We recommend using Canvas for future course development. This will make it easier for you to transition those materials when Moodle is retired.

11: Who should I contact for assistance with Canvas?

Users can contact the IST Service Desk with any questions about Canvas. In addition, the Office of Digital Learning is available in CKB G15. Please stop by during business hours with any questions about the migration to Canvas.

12: I’m a student taking a course. When can I access my course content?

Course content in classes will be available for the first day of the semester. Instructors have the ability to publish their course materials earlier.
